On Tuesday the 8th of October Ercall class went up to Old Oswestry Hillfort to investigate life in the Iron Age.
We split into groups to look at the ramparts on the way to the top.
From the top we saw lots of farmers’ fields which we imagined the Iron Age people working on.
We looked across and could see Chirk, the Orthopaedic hospital and Park Hall. Mr Philips, one of our school governors, who knows a lot about the hillfort, told us about all of the other hillforts we could see.
We ate our lunch at the top, thinking about all of the Iron Age people who lived there 3000 years ago.
On the way back down we collected some bracken which we will use to finish off the round houses we are making in DT.
When we got to the bottom we sketched what we could see or what we imagined life would have been like there 3000 years ago.
We had a great time and can’t wait to go back.
“My favourite bit was admiring the view from the top.” Skyla.
“I loved collecting the bracken,” Natasha.
“I found it amazing that Iron Age people walked where we were walking 3000 years ago!” Noah.
“I loved it when we were walking down as the breeze was in my face.” Harry.
“I think it’s amazing that 3000 years ago Iron Age people lived there and had to defend the hillfort.” Scott.
