Thursday’s Home Learning

Good morning Nursery children and families,

Today we are going to start the day by doing a number wake and shake; get ready to move and count everyone:

And now we’re going to sing and do the actions to Baby Shark:

Today I would like you to collect as many red, green, blue and orange items as you can from around your house. Now I would like you to sort the items into colours; putting all the red items into one container, green items into another, blue into another and then the orange items into another container. When you have done this count how many items are in each container and write that number. Which colour item did you find the most of? And the least? How many are there altogether? A similar activity is shown below:

For the next activity you will need some Skittles sweets, a paper plate and some water.  Arrange the Skittles in a single row coloured pattern on the plate. Carefully pour enough water to cover the Skittles and the plate itself. Now wait and watch what happens. What happens to the Skittles? Tell your family what you can see.

Here are some photographs of when Mrs Meddins did this experiment:

Here are some nursery rhymes and poems which have a colour mentioned in them. Read them with your child; encouraging them to join in saying them as they become familiar with the words.

Can your child hear the rhyming words in the rhymes? Can they say any more words which rhyme with the words they can hear? The words don’t have to be real words so long as they rhyme. You can have lots of fun making up rhyming words.

Here are some rhyming words which you can use with your child and then they can use independently:

Have a lovely day everyone!
