Thursday 18th June Home Learning

Good morning Lawley!

I hope you are all well. Here are our home learning activities for today.

Reading and Phonics

Please carry out your daily reading and complete a book review. Next, please join in with the daily Read Write Inc Set 3 Phonics session on YouTube.

I would then like you to have a game of Make a Match on the Phonics Play website, revising all phase 3 sounds.

English Home Learning

Please start by listening or reading our book of the week, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.

Today you are going to plan your own version of the Rainbow Fish using the Rainbow animal you designed yesterday.  I want you to think very carefully about the journey your animal will take, who they will see, what will happen and how it will end.  You can use the template below or create your own plan, but remember in a story plan you must include:

  • a beginning/introduction
  • a problem
  • a solution – how the problem will be fixed
  • an ending

I would also like you to think about the characters who will be part of your story and write a list of adjectives to use when you write your story tomorrow.

As in all our writing, please remember to use:

  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • phonics
  • finger spaces
  • neat handwriting

Rainbow Animal Story Plan

Cheeky Challenge: Write a sentence to describe your story setting.

I have set an activity on Purple Mash based on Chapter 1 of Little Red for you to complete.

Maths Home Learning

Today I would like you to start our maths lesson by watching our counting to 50 forwards and backwards song.  Please join in with the counting and actions, then independently write all numbers down to 50 – forwards and backwards.

Our maths lesson today is making equal groups by grouping.  This means that you share the objects out equally into groups.  Please start by watching the video on the White Rose website.

Remember whilst working through our maths session you can use any equipment or resources you may have at home. This could be coins, sweets, pencils, Lego.

Here are our activities based on making equal groups through grouping.

Cheeky Challenge:  I have 15 juicy red apples.  I need to share them between 4 children.  Can this be done equally?  Why, why not?

Science Home Learning

This week in school we are carrying out lots of Rainbow activities.  Instead of our usual plants science, this week I would like you to carry out the rainbow skittles activity.

You will need:

  • a paper plate
  • a bag of skittles
  • water
  1. First carefully arrange your skittles on the paper plate into a pattern.  It is IMPORTANT that they are not touching any other skittles.
  2. Next, slowly pour some tap water onto your plate so the skittles are about half covered in water.  Be careful you do not do this too quickly as you do not want the skittles to move.
  3. Then watch carefully what happens to the water and the skittles.
  4. Finally discuss what has happened.

When you have completed this activity I would like you to write about what you did and what has happened to the skittles.

Cheeky Challenge: Why do you think the colours did not mix together?

Music Home Learning

Today I would like you to listen to The Colours of the Rainbow Song.  This will help you learn the colours, I find this tricky to remember as well!  Learn the words, sing along and see if you can create a dance to go along with it.

Have a great day Lawley, stay well and safe.
