Wednesday 27th January 2021. Maths home learning for Clee Class and Earls Hill Reception (Cygnets)

Today we are going to start our maths with some counting songs:

We are continuing our maths based on the Jack and the Beanstalk story. For today’s activity you will need:

  • coins
  • a bag

  • a dice or cube of some kind
  • small stickers or paper to write on and stick over the sides of the dice
  • some people to play the game with

First you need to write ‘1 less’ on three stickers or paper and stick them onto 3 sides of the dice. Then write ‘1 more’ on the other three stickers or paper and stick them onto the remaining 3 sides of the dice.

Now give each person playing the game 5 coins and place the remaining coins in the middle of the table or wherever you are playing.

Now you are ready to start the game.

Take turns in rolling the dice if the dice face lands on ‘1 more’ collect 1 more coin from the pile in the middle of the table. If the dice lands on ‘1 less’ put one of your coins into the pile in the middle. Each time you take a turn say what is 1 more or 1 less than the number of coins you have; count them to ensure you have said the correct amount. The winner is the person who has the most coins at the end of the game.

I hope you enjoyed playing that game. Who had the most coins and won the game?
