We are going to start our maths today with some number songs:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08r3xqq/numberblocks-series-2-numberblock-castle
For today’s activity you will need:
- coins
- a dice
Put the coins into the middle of where you are doing the activity. Now you need to roll the dice. What number has it landed on? Pick up that many coins from the pile. Now if you’re playing the game with someone else it’s their turn to roll the dice. When they have had their turn it’s your turn again. Roll the dice and pick up the number of coins it shows on the dice. How can you find out how many coins you have altogether? If you said you need to count them all then you are correct. Now count your coins. How many have you got?
Can you write the number sentence?
I will you:
When I played the game I rolled the dice and it landed on 3, I collected 3 coins
when I rolled the dice again it landed on 4, I collected 4 coins
I collected 7 gold coins altogether.
This is how I would write my number sentence:
3 + 4 = 7
You can continue to play the game until you’re ready to finish. When you are finishing the game, count how many coins you have.
