All of the children in Earl’s Hill had a fantastic week last week and worked really hard. In Literacy last week the children in reception enjoyed lots of different activities which enabled them to apply the new sounds they learnt in phonics. On Thursday we learnt all about tigers and then wrote a fact about them. We even remembered that a sentence needs a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end- super work reception!

On Thursday we talked about what community means.

On Wednesday all of the children enjoyed making a bird feeder to take home. Thank you so much for the home learning projects. We discovered that the most common bird was the ‘Wood Pigeon’.

In Maths last week reception children were looking at numbers to 5 and noticed that they create a staircase pattern.

The whole class have enjoyed drawing club this week.

In Art we have been drawing using continuous line. The children were really focused on the object they were drawing.

On Friday reception children explored shapes with 4 sides. We painted with Lego pieces and noticed that squares and rectangles have 4 sides.

Well done everyone, what a super week!

Our first full week back!

We have had a super fun filled first week back in Earl’s Hill. The children have settled back into our routines fantastically and are enjoying learning lots of new things.

Our new Geography topic this half term is ‘Weather patterns’. We have been really interested in looking at the weather forecast each day and have been keeping a weather diary in our classroom. We talked about the different types of seasonal and daily weather we see. The children were however very disappointed that we didn’t have any snow on Monday after seeing it on the forecast for that evening!

Our Year One children have started focusing on our new Literacy text, ‘The Lion Inside’. On Thursday we discussed with our talking partners how we think Mouse feels at different points in the story. We then used our phonics to write words and create posters. On Monday we will use these to help us write sentences in our books.

Our new Science topic focuses on ‘Materials and their properties’. Today our reception children enjoyed a materials hunt outside and found lots of items made of out of wood, plastic and metal!

The Year One children enjoyed working together to predict what may happen in our experiment. We talked about which item may be most absorbent and therefore best at clearing up our water spillage.

The children made some fantastic predictions about what they think might happen in the book. We also talked about journeys that we have been on and what we see on the way to school.
