Health and Fitness Week

Happy Monday Stiperstones,

This week our learning will be celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. With school being partially closed and lots of uncertainty, children’s and adults mental health has never been more important.

Here is a message from The Duchess of Cambridge, discussing the theme for this years Children’s Mental Health Week 2021.

The aim of learning this week, is to reduce the amount of screen time children, parents and staff are having and for learning to be more fluid, to help relieve some stresses.

Therefore, I will do not be posting work daily, instead I have created a timetable of learning for you to follow throughout the week. Each morning there is English and Maths based activities and each afternoon has a theme of learning. Our English lessons are going to be based around the book ‘We’re All Wonders’, written by R.J. Palacio.

At 2pm everyday, we will be having ‘Read and Relax’ sessions on Zoom. This will involve Miss Jones and I reading a short story or poem to you.

Thursday’s Learning

English lesson four:

For our English lesson for both today and tomorrow, we will be beginning to write a recount of the story of David an Goliath. For this task, it would be useful for you to use Monday’s learning of creating a comic strip on the story of David and Goliath. The recount we will be doing in English today, however, should be more detailed than the comic strip recount we created but it could be used as a guide to plan the order of the events that happened when writing your own recount.

Make sure you take your time in creating your recount as you have both today and tomorrow’s lesson to complete this task.

The recount must also include setting the scene as to where the battle happened and describe the characters in detail within the story and how they are feeling at each point. You should also make sure you use year 5/6 vocabulary and punctuate your writing as accurately as possible. It would be useful for you to edit your writing by reading it out loud to make sure it flows and you have used punctuation and spelling correctly.

Please click the link below to access today’s PowerPoint that will guide you further through this task.

You may also use the worksheet below to help you recall the events within the story.

Wednesday’s Learning

English lesson three:

For today’s English lesson, we will be writing an exciting dialogue, based on the story of the BFG. For this task, you will need to pick two characters within the story and recreate speech between these characters. You must try and base the dialogue on the way you think each character in the story would talk to another character so keep their personality in mind. Try to also make sure your writing is detailed with use of interesting vocabulary and pay careful attention to your punctuation.

Please click the link below to be able to access today’s PowerPoint to help you to create a piece of dialogue based on the story.

Afternoon lesson:

For this afternoon’s lesson, following on from our English learning earlier in the week about the idea of dreams in ‘The BFG’, we will now be creating our own dream-catcher like the ones in the image above.

You could also attach the dream jar you created in our English lesson on Monday to the string below the dream-catcher, once you have created it, if you wish to.

If you do not have the suggested resources on the PowerPoint to create your own dream catcher, you could try to use anything you have available. For example, using a piece of card or cardboard from a cereal box to cut a ring shape for the dream catcher. If you do not have anything to make a dream catcher, it would be nice to see a picture you have drawn of a dream catcher and a brief explanation of what they are used for.

Please follow the link below to give you some help in creating your own dream-catcher.
