Clee’s Stunning Start

Welcome back to the Summer Term. What a sunny week we’ve had to start our Amazing Animals topic.

This week we have been learning about minibeasts. Our book of the week has been ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

In Literacy we predicted what was going to happen at the end of the Very Hungry Caterpillar story. We also did some amazing writing about how we made our bug hotel during our Stunning Start. We looked at and discussed the differences between a fiction and a non-fiction book.

In Maths we have been learning about doubling. We have practised doubling by painting spots on one side of a butterfly and then folding the paper over to double the spots. We have counted spots on one wing of a ladybird and then drawn the same number of spots on the other wing to double it.

For our stunning start we worked together to build a bug hotel. We are hoping that we may have some guests staying in our hotel when we check next week.

We welcomed some very small caterpillars into the class. After reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story we decided that the caterpillars will grow, make a cocoon and then turn into butterflies. We will watch them grow and when they are butterflies we will release them into the world.

We have a fabulous half term with our Superheroes topic. The children have been so enthusiastic in their engagement and learning. There has been lots of amazing maths, writing, creativity and most of all we’ve all had so much FUN doing it.

Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks:

We had a baddie come into our classroom and try to trash it by tipping over chairs and using magic web spray! The children called the baddie ‘Dangerous Dallow’! They decided that Super Meddins must come to the rescue:

We discussed how we could stop Dangerous Dallow coming into our class and trashing it again. The children decided to plan and make baddie traps:

We made lasers to stop Dangerous Dallow; the children had to climb through them to get into class!

We made invisibility potions and wrote the recipe we had used:

Dangerous Dallow came back to our classroom but we caught her, sat her on a chair and tied her up using masking tape. We then unmasked Dangerous Dallow and it turned out to be……………..Mrs Dallow! Mrs Dallow had had a spell put on her which made her do those terrible things. The spell has now been broken and she is now called ‘Delightful Dallow’.

Marvellous Middle

For our Marvellous Middle day we made Vegetable Superheroes after reading the book ‘Supertato’. The children designed and described their Vegetable Superhero during the morning and made them in the afternoon. Thank you to the families who sent in vegetables for their child to use:

After reading Supertato we planted cress seeds:

And carrot, lettuce and radish seeds:

What a super busy, super exciting Superheroes half term!

Rainbow learning in Nursery.

We have had a busy week continuing our rainbow learning in Nursery.

Here are some photographs of us exploring and planting the plants for our rainbow garden:

We are looking forward to caring for the plants and watching them grow.

We took turns and worked together to make rainbow cookies:

Super Clee!

We have had such a busy week in Clee class!

In Literacy we had a letter from a villain telling us that they had stolen Techno Ted from our classroom! The villain set daily challenges which the children had to complete to get Techno Ted back. These included writing where we thought Techno Ted was being kept, thinking of, and writing down, some words rhyming with bat and chat, writing our name and the names of our friends and drawing a picture of us as a Superhero and writing our Superhero name.

We put the missing posters we made around school so that everyone could look out for Reggie Robot’s light.

We completed all of the challenges and Techno Ted was returned to us safe and sound with Reggie Robot’s light tucked in his Superhero pants!

We made a Spiderman Writing Web

In Maths we learned about capacity using Superhero Power juice. We matched numbers to quantities by playing a Superhero pairs game. We took it in turns to roll the dice and fill the ten frame with the correct number of jewels or gold coins.

In Understanding the World we made Superhero dens in the forest area

We finished our busy week off with a party to celebrate the children who had birthdays in April.

Nursery News!

Hello Nursery families!

It has been lovely seeing the children back in Nursery after the Easter break.

We would like to say a big welcome to our new children who started after Easter; Levi, Eva, Winter-Iris, Brooke and Liberty. We have been amazed at how well they have settled in.

Our topic this half term is ‘How many colours in a rainbow?’ We will doing lots of exciting activities to help us learn about how many colours there are in a rainbow and what colours they are. Here are some photographs of the activities we have enjoyed so far:

We have also made a rainbow garden by using lots of plants. We are looking forward to watching the plants grow. We will look after the plants by watering them. We would like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to Marion Stanton from Coppice Nurseries, Middleton for kindly donating some of the plants to us.

Happy St George’s Day Early Years!

Our First Week Back in Clee

It has been lovely to have the children back in school after the Easter break. They have all settled straight back into school and have been eager to start our Superheroes topic.

A big welcome to Freddie who started in Clee class this week.

The children arrived in class on Monday morning to find a hole in the ceiling. There were lots of questions; Who made the hole? How did they make the hole? We had a big discussion with many interesting ideas shared by the children.

In Literacy we received a letter saying that someone (a villain) had stolen Reggie Robot’s light! The children were shocked and decided to write letters to the villain to ask for the light to be returned. They also made ‘missing’ posters which we are going to put up around the school:

We have used our Superheroes writing areas:

We went to the forest area where we found natural materials to write with:

Our book this week has been ‘Ten Little Superheroes’. In maths we have been Superhero numberfinders

We hunted for Superhero numbers and put them into the correct order

In Expressive Art and Design we designed and made Superhero capes:

The children suggested a name for our class Superhero/Supervillain. They then voted to decide the name.

The children were each given an Easter chick with a chocolate egg inside to take home. A big thank you to Mrs Meddins’ Mum for making the chicks for the children.

What a super busy week!

Earls Hill Cygnets Home Learning Wednesday 31st March.

Good morning Earls Hill Cygnets!

I hope you enjoyed the sunshine yesterday.

To start the day I would like you to take part in a Phonics session with Mrs Thompstone. You can find these sessions on our website under the Learning/Reading tab but here is a quick link:

Maths

To start your maths today I would like you to join in with this counting song:

For today’s activity you will need:

  • a piece of paper
  • an orange coloured pen or pencil
  • Some green paint or a green pen or pencil
  • a cotton bud, lolly stick or paintbrush

Now I would like you to draw a carrot on the paper. Ask your grown up to write a number on the carrot. Do you know what the number is? Now, using the green paint, I would like you to paint that number of tops sticking up from the carrot. Grown ups: Choose any number which is appropriate for your child. You could try choosing two numbers for them to add together.

Teaching Archives - Laura Kelly's Inklings

I would like you to draw at least 4 more carrots and do this for each one.

Literacy

Today Clee Class are going to be making Easter cards in school. It would be lovely if you can make one at home too. The cards we are making are like the ones in the picture:

Pin on Activities

You can make one like this or you can design one yourself using the materials you have at home.

When you’ve designed and made your card remember to write inside who you are sending it to and that it is from you.

I would like you to read your reading book or a Bug Club book with your grown up.

Have a lovely day everyone!
