Monday 6th July English Home Learning

Good morning Lawley and Caradoc!

I hope you are all well and have had a good, safe weekend.

This week we are setting an English competition between both of our classes.  The prizes are:

1st place = 10 dojo points

2nd place = 5 dojo points

3rd place = 3 dojo points

Everyone who participates will also receive 1 dojo point.

Our focus will be based on the story we are also looking at in school.  This will we are looking at We ‘re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.  I love this story because of the beautiful illustrations and the way it is written so we can all join in easily.

To start with please watch the story, or if you have a copy at home, read if with someone in your household.

Today we are going to focus on learning the story.  We can do this by creating a story map.  Please look at the PowerPoint below to show you what a story map is.

Now it’s over to you to create your own story map and learn our story.  Be creative and imaginative, use colours and pictures, and most importantly, have fun!

Remember in all our writing we must include:

  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • phonics for spellings
  • finger spaces
  • neat handwriting

I can not wait to see your story maps so don’t forget to send them over to myself or Miss Wright.

Cheeky Challenge: Tell me your favourite part of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and why you like this part.

Caradoc & Lawley Maths Challenge 6th July

Good morning!

I would like you to practise the days of the week by joining in with this fun song. Remember when you are writing the days of the week, each day starts with a capital letter. This is because they are ‘proper nouns’ (naming words).

Every day this week, we are going to set some Maths challenges for you to complete at home.

You might like to use some objects to represent the different numbers.

Think carefully about which coins are available: 1p, 2p 5p. It might help to have some coins to help you.

English Home Learning 3rd July

Good morning!

I hope that you have enjoyed all of the activities linked to our story this week. Today I would like you to write your own version of the story ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ but make a change!

Think about a different animal which could arrive at Jennifer’s house. Here are some animals you might like to choose from:

You might have an even better idea! Think carefully about the animal you have chosen, what do you know about them? What do you think they might eat?

Now write your own story about an animal which comes to tea. I can’t wait to read your stories.

English Home Learning 2nd July

Good morning!

I hope that you enjoyed creating your fact files yesterday.

Today, I would like you to think about all of the things which you might need to buy if the tiger was going to come to tea again. Make a note of all of your ideas.

Now I would like you to use commas in your  list. Here is my list:

I need to buy tea, milk, sugar, biscuits, bread, butter and jam.

You are going to create a fact file all about tigers so make sure that you make some notes. Think about how you will organise the fact file, what sub-headings will you use?

Here is a writing frame to help you to organise your ideas:
