English Home Learning

To start our English lesson today, I would like you to look at the following picture in detail.  Then I would like you to list as many adjectives (exciting describing words) as possible.  Finally, please use at least two of your adjectives in a sentence.  How many sentences can you write?  As an extra challenge, can you include three exciting adjectives in a sentence?

We are continuing with our English based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  To start with, please write a full sentence describing the emotions and feelings you felt whilst listening to the story, explaining why you think you felt this way.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to plan our own letter based on our story Lost and Found.  Let’s have a quick recap of our letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).

Each feature of a letter needs to include certain aspects.  Let’s look at these in more detail:

Now, I would like you to have a think about your own letter, imagining you are in our Lost and Found story.  Answer the following question making sure your write in full sentences:

Finally, you are going to plan your letter.  I have included a planning template below, but you can answer these questions using full sentences on paper.  By creating a plan, your letter writing later in the week will be supported, and the plan will help make sure you include all the features.

If you are finding this difficult, look back at our letter WAGOLL to help you, or ask other people in your household if they have any letters you could look at and compare.

Cheeky Challenge: Can you list different ways in which we could end a letter before writing our name, instead of just writing ‘from’?

Please carry out your daily reading.

Science Home Learning

Let’s start our Science lesson with a game of odd one out.  Look at the three pictures below, and answer the following questions:

  • What are the similarities?
  • What are the differences?

If you are finding this a little tricky, have a look at the appearance of the three birds, think about what the three birds do, and consider where they might be found.

Today, our focus in on light.  Please click on the PowerPoint link below to follow our lesson.

To start with, please write a full sentence describing your favourite part of the story, and explain why.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to be focussing on a letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).  Over the week we will be building up our knowledge and understanding of letter writing, so by the end we can write our own letter.  Here is a letter WAGOLL:

Your first task is to read the letter, then think about everything that has been included.  Write a list of the features you can see or those that you already know need to be used in a letter.  As a challenge, can you write an sentence to explain what each feature is?

Now, let’s have a look at the features we need to include.  You can use this to check against your list, or use this as a guide if you feel you would like support whilst finding the features.

Finally, I would like you to imagine yourself in the story Lost and Found, and that you need to write a letter.  Please think about your audience – this is who you are writing the letter to.  Also think about the purpose – the reason you are writing this letter.  Please write full sentences to describe both sections.

Cheeky Challenge – Have you ever sent a letter?  If so, who was it to and why did you send it?  Have you ever received a letter?  If so, who was it from and why was it sent to you?  Finally, if you have never sent or received a letter, who would you like to receive a letter from and why?

Please carry out your daily reading.

Music Home Learning

Please continue learning our whole school song – Any Dream Will Do from Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.  Whilst learning this, listen to the pitch, the different ways you can express your voice and the different ways you can show emotion with your face.

PE Home Learning

I have attached our favourite Zumba videos below.  I know you all love performing alongside these, and they are a great way to sing and dance at the same time.  Remember to make sure you follow each action and that you have enough space around you.  Have fun!

Have a good day and remember to keep sending in your work.

Monday, 22nd February Home Learning

Good morning and welcome back after half term.  We hope you have had a restful, safe half term and have had the opportunity to relax.

For the next two weeks our focus in English will be around a book by Oliver Jeffers called Lost and Found.  Our bible story for the next two weeks will be Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, which will be our afternoon lesson focus. As a whole school, we also have a song to learn (see our class news page).  Our aim is for everyone to learn this song and for you to send in a recording of your singing.  We will then join everyone’s clips together to produce a whole school song.

We will be continuing with our class daily zoom meetings.  Please make sure you do join these, they are an important part of our day and an opportunity to discuss our daily home learning activities.  You will find our daily zoom links on Class Dojo.

Phonics Home Learning

Please join in with the live session of our Read Write Inc Phonics, set 3 with Rosie.  This session goes live on YouTube from 9.30am and can be accessed for 24 hours.

Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths lesson by listening to and joining in with our counting to 100 song.  Once you have done this, please write down all numbers from 0 – 100, making sure they are in the correct order and are formed the right way.  As an extra challenge, can you write the numbers from 100 – 0?

Today we will be focussing on our weekly Nrich problem solving.  It is important for us to carry out problem solving activities as they support our previous learning and allow our brains to think of different ways to reach the answer and solve the problem.  Often, there can be more than one answer or a number of ways to reach the answer.  Problem solving is a fun way to use our maths skills.

Our Nrich problem solving task today is related to colouring triangles.  The link to access the site is below, or you could use the PowerPoint slides posted below:

Website: Colouring Triangles (maths.org)

PowerPoint: Monday Maths

*Reminder* Symmetry is where a shape or object is split into half equally, with both equal sides being coloured or decorated exactly the same.  If you were to put a mirror down the line of symmetry, this would also show the symmetrical image – being exactly the same.

Cheeky Challenge: Explain how you found this problem solving activity.  Which did you find the easiest, which did you find the most difficult, why?  Remember to answer your cheeky challenge in a full sentence.

As previously mentioned, over the next two weeks we will be concentrating on a book called Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  Let’s start by looking at the front cover.

Answer the following questions:

  • What do you think this story will be about?
  • Why do you think this?
  • What characters do you think might be in this story?
  • Does this look like a good book to you?  Why/why not?

Today, we are going to be using our reading comprehension skills to answer questions based on our book.

Now, let’s listen to the story of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

Lost and Found Story

Let’s look at the first slide:

Now, have a look at the following slide which shows you how to structure a sentence and the different steps I have taken to improve it.

*Reminder* An adjective is a describing word, such a big, beautiful or colourful.

* Reminder* A verb is a doing word, and to make it powerful, we think about making it sound exciting.  For example, instead of said we could say whispered, cried, whined.  Instead of walked we could say stomped, marched or tiptoed.

It is your turn now to write a sentence including the information stated at the end of each line.  Be imaginative and think about the different language we have learn and used in class previously.

Remember to make sure you have used everything stated at the end of each line.  Here is a checklist once you have completed your sentences:

Cheeky Challenge: Write a sentence about your day so far, including one exciting adjective and one powerful verb.

RE Home Learning

Our focus for the next two weeks turns to a different bible story, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Today, you are going to learn about the story of Joseph through a range of story slides and videos.  Then, you are going to create a story board to show that you understand the story and the order of the main events.  Finally, you are going to choose one of the cheeky challenges, why not really challenge yourself on this.  All information is on the PowerPoint below.

Joseph story board Monday

Once you have completed your story board and cheeky challenge, please start learning our whole school song – Any Dream Will Do.  This can be found on our class news page.

Have a good day and take care.  If you have any questions, please do message me, and remember to send me photographs of your work either though Class Dojo or our class email address.

Mental Health Week

Good morning everyone!

I hope you have had a restful weekend and you are all well.  As we discussed in our Key Stage One zoom meeting on Friday, this week we are taking part in Mental Health Week.  We will be focussing on our emotions and feelings, and trying to be as creative and hands on as possible through expressing ourselves, having a break from the screen time.  The Duchess of Cambridge has this important message for Mental Health Week:

Mr Dickson will be holding a zoom meeting today at 9.00am for Lawley and Wrekin and 9.30am for Caradoc to start our week off, this will be instead of our morning class zoom meetings.  However, these will continue the rest of the week as normal.  We will also be holding a relax and read session every day, please check our class dojo page for the daily link and time.

We have set up a timetable for the week to guide you through our daily lessons.  Every day a Maths and English activity will be set on our class webpage for you to complete.  For your afternoon lesson, you can choose a number of the activities from the timetable.  You do not have to follow the afternoon activities in the daily order, you can choose the activity you wish to complete from any of the days, but making sure you cover every day by the end of the week.  Under each afternoon there are a range of links, these cover all year groups across the school.  Please carefully look at the one you think is appropriate and manageable at home, ensuring you get permission before using any equipment or carrying out any tasks.

Here is the link for our timetable:

Health and Fitness Timetable

There is a daily well-being journal for you to complete every day, recording how you feel and describing your day.  The links can be found below, however if you would like a printed copy, please message your class teacher and we can arrange a printed journal for you to pick up.
