This week in Caradoc we have started a new book in English called My name is not Refugee by Kate Milner. We have been describing the little boys backpack as well as thinking about the five items we would pack. In Maths we have continued our fractions work by recognising and finding a third and finding the whole. In RE we learnt about the features of a Mosque, and in PSHE we looked at good and not so good activities to do before going to bed. In Science we identified our body organs and in Computing we used algorithms to move the Beebots. In Music we continued learning the glockenspiel and in Geography we looked at seasonal weather in London.

Well done to Seraya who is our Star of the week. Seraya has wowed us in all subjects but particularly Maths this week with her fractions.

This week in Caradoc we have been writing our letters asking for help to save the trees. In Maths we have been looking at fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. In RE we learnt about the importance of Allah to Muslims and in Computing we made maps and routes for the Beebots. In Art we completed an artist study on Diana Beltran Herrera and in Geography we identified the geographical features of London. In PE we continued our pirate fitness and in PSHE we looked at how to prepare our minds and bodies for a restful sleep. In Science we learnt about the importance of hygiene and completed two experiments to see how quickly germs can spread and their reaction to soap,

This week in Caradoc we have been adding er and est to our words in English and measuring in millilitres and litres in Maths. In RE we learnt about Islam and Muslims, and in PE we completed 40 second bursts of our pirate fitness. In PSHE we looked at the benefits of physical activity and in Geography we developed our understanding of compass directions. In Art we completed blind drawing of our feathers and in music we used the glockenspiel along with our song.

Well done to our Star of the Week, Shania, who has been working hard with her handwriting and spellings.

In Caradoc this week we have been learning about adding er and est onto words in English and how to use apostrophes for contracted forms. In Maths we have been measuring mass with grams and kilograms.  In RE we learnt about the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon Him), and in Geography we focused on the key landmarks in London.  In Science we looked at the benefits of keeping healthy as well as over and under eating, and in PE we focused on balancing on different parts of our bodies in Fitness.  In Computing we used different direction algorithms to move ourselves, and in PSHE we discussed keeping healthy, tying in nicely with our Science lessons. In Art we drew still life drawings of different feathers.

On Wednesday we had a visit from Booka, where we were shown a range of books and were read a story.  Order forms and book lists were sent home if you wish to order any via school.

Welcome back to the start of our Summer term.  The children have all settled in well and have been working hard.  In English we have made predictions on our new book, The Last Wolf, and carried out research on extinct animals. In Maths we have been learning the 5 and 10 times tables as well as dividing by 5 and 10. In PSHE we learnt about our body names and how male and females are different. In Science we focused on healthy food and the five food groups, and in Geography we have started off our London unit by identifying where our capital city is located. In computing we looked at giving instructions, practising these skills through drawing pictures and moving our partners.

Well done to our star of the week, Isla, who has shown so much majority over the last term and has been a kind, caring friend. Thank you to everyone who joined me for parents evening this week, it was lovely sharing everyone’s achievements.

Reading books have been sent home today so please remember to share these books at home as this is our homework.

This week in Caradoc we have been building up our skills in English in preparation to write a diary entry based on our book character and during the Blitz.  We have planned these as well as considered what it was like during the Blitz, using our senses.  In Maths we have been looking at doubles, halves and odd and even numbers, as well as starting our measurement unit by looking at measuring in centimetres.  In RE we considered what we think Heaven looks like and in Music we used the glockenspiels to play along to our song, Zootime.  In Computing we gathered information to create a pictogram based on our favourite colours, focusing on making tally charts, and in Science we focused on what animals and humans need to survive – air, food, water and shelter.  In PE we continued with our Mindfulness Stretching story and in History we looked further into Neil Armstrong’s mission to the Moon on Apollo 11 with Buzz Aldrin.  In PSHE we continued looking at watching age appropriate films, programs and games, as well as how to keep safe by looking at warning symbols on products, and in DT we have made our wheel and axis buggies, working together in a team to build these.

Congratulations to our Star of the Week, Olivia P.  Olivia has recently joined our comprehension group and has fitted in beautifully and working very hard.

What an amazing experience we had this morning with the exotic zoo.  The children learnt lots of new scientific information for our Animals including Humans unit, as well being able to touch or hold some of the animals. This was such an interesting session and the children were very brave! We met Carl the Cockroach, Ginger the Snake, Charlie the Frog, Eggsy the Chicken and Tia the Skunk.

The children have been busy this week showing off what they know in our assessments. In addition to these we have done mindfulness stretching in PE, inputting data through pictograms in Computing and learnt about the main Easter symbols in RE.  We have started finding out about Neil Armstrong in History as well as looking at offspring and life cycles of animals including humans. We had a fantastic time on World Book Day on Thursday (see our previous post) and made cards for the special women in our life for Mothering Sunday. We all hope you liked your cards made with love.
