Lawley really enjoyed their Santa Dash and had great fun raising money. Thank you to everyone who donated!
Wrekin Bulletin
A Dinosaur Visits Wrekin!
We have had a terrific visitor to school! We heard that something had visited the school in the night and went out to the field to investigate.
We found huge footprints on the field which looked like they had been made by a dinosaur! We used metre sticks to measure them and compared them to our own foot prints.
Then we checked the school cameras and saw what had visited the school.
We were very excited and a little scared! We decided to write about the dinosaur and describe it!
I was so impressed with some of the writing we produced, using descriptive language and scientific words such as ‘carnivore’. Well done Wrekin!
Remembrance in Wrekin
In Wrekin class this week we have been writing acrostic poems about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. We have been learning about World War 1 in particular and the different coloured poppies.
We have made window poppies and painted our own fields of poppies based on the work of Luiza Vizoli. We thought about the different shapes of the poppies and how we could blend colours.
We have also celebrated Inter-Faith Week by looking at how soldiers from different countries and with different religions fought together.
Finally, we have had some amazing work completed at home which children have brought in.
We have been amazed with the incredible work the children have done this week, well done Wrekin!
Wrekin Space Day!
As our Fantastic Finish we have had a Space Day in Wrekin class.
We began by designing and making our own aliens from clay.
The children did a fantastic job of discussing and designing their aliens.
Next, the children were able to make their designs come to life using clay.
I was so impressed with how artistic Wrekin children were and how well they used the clay tools!
Afterwards we tried space food that astronauts eat in outer space!
Although most of us enjoyed the freeze-dried astronaut food we didn’t want to swap our fresh fruit snack for it!
Finally, we designed and made our own Lego space ships! There were some fantastic designs and the children were able to talk about the different parts of their creations confidently.
We’ve had a fantastic day in Wrekin class and the children have amazed me with their knowledge, enthusiasm and creativity!
Wrekin is Rapping in music!
This half-term Wrekin class have been listening to different rap songs and learning about beat and tempo.
The children have been amazing at learning the songs and dancing to the beat!
Here are some videos of the awesome movers:
I think we’ve got some serious dance-off competitors in Wrekin!
Space Week Science: What is the best material for a Spacesuit?
In Wrekin class we have been learning about materials and their properties.
For Space Week we wanted to find out what material would be best for a Space Suit!
We needed to test how flexible, tough and how warm the materials could keep us.
We then choose the 5 materials: fabric , paper, carboard, bubble wrap and tin foil.
Our teams were ready and our brave astronauts were kitted out with their custom made Space Suits!
After we made our space suits our astronauts ran a race and did 40 jumps on the spot to see who had the most flexibility. We tested our astronaut’s temperature throughout using a digital thermometer and tested the materials toughness by tearing and ripping the materials.
Our conclusion was that from the materials we had, bubble wrap was the most flexible and still very tough and so was the best overall material. Fabric was the toughest and paper the lightest. Carboard was too stiff and foil ripped very easily.
The children were fantastic at building the suits and really enjoyed being NASA scientists for an afternoon!
Wrekin see the Earth from space!
In Wrekin class we have been learning about astronauts and used the Chromebooks to access Google Earth and visit our planet from space!
The children really enjoyed zooming in and out from space and talking about what they can see.
We saw the land and water and even some roads, towns and cities all around the globe! We even found some snow!
U.F.O. Crash Landing on Holy Trinity Field!
This morning we had an important email from Mr Dickson:
Mr Dickson then had a Zoom meeting with Wrekin class and told the class that we needed to go investigate the strange objects which had crashed onto our school field.
We spoke about being safe and how we would investigate the crash before we left the classroom.
We were very excited to see the strange object and debris that was scattered around the field.
We found some strange looking green slime leaving the crashed space craft that seemed to be going off into the Forest School Area.
In the afternoon we investigated some of the materials recovered from the site. We looked at their properties and wrote down what we found.
We found that some of the materials were stretchy and others were shiny or rough.
