Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths session by singing our counting in 5s song.  Once you have joined in, please write down all numbers up to 50 counting in 5s, making sure all your numbers are formed correctly.  Why not challenge yourself even more by going up to 100 counting in 5s.

Today we are going to continue with our Multiplication and Division unit, concentrating on dividing by 5.  This is where we are sharing a number equally into five groups.  For example:

Let’s have a close look at our number sentence and what each part means:

Now, please watch the video below which explains dividing by 5 in greater detail.

Spr2.4.3 – Divide by 5 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

I would now like you to complete the work sheet based on dividing by 5.  Remember, I like you to be as practical as possible, and using different equipment can help our learning.  There may be many things around your house to support your learning of dividing by 5.  Make sure you ask permission first, but some ideas are lego bricks, dolls, cars, books, sweets, fruit or coins.  You will be using these to divide by 5 – sharing equally into 5 groups.  You could draw five circles on a piece of paper, use string or wool to make a circle shape, or use a hoop – be creative and as practical as possible during your maths worksheet activity.

Dividing by 5

Cheeky Challenge: Complete the true or false problem below.  Show me your working out either by drawing representations or by using equipment.

English Home Learning

To start our English lesson today, I would like you to look at the following picture in detail.  Then I would like you to list as many adjectives (exciting describing words) as possible.  Finally, please use at least two of your adjectives in a sentence.  How many sentences can you write?  As an extra challenge, can you include three exciting adjectives in a sentence?

We are continuing with our English based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  To start with, please write a full sentence how you think the penguin felt throughout the story.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to write our own letter based on our story Lost and Found.  Let’s have a quick recap of our letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).

Now it’s over to you to write your own letter.  Use the plan you produced yesterday as guidance, and refer to our WAGOLL above for support.

Cheeky Challenge: Check back through your letter and see if there is any further information you can add, and that you have used all features from our WAGOLL.

Please carry out your daily reading.

Art Home Learning

Please see Mr Hughes’ separate art post for today’s lesson.  Remember to send in your photographs.

Now is also your opportunity to learn our whole school song, Any Dream Will Do.

Have a good day and keep sending in your hard work.

Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths session by singing our counting in 2s song.  Once you have joined in, please write down all numbers up to 50 counting in 2s, making sure all your numbers are formed correctly.  Why not challenge yourself even more by going up to 100 counting in 2s.

Continuing with our Multiplication and Division unit in Maths, our focus today is odd and even numbers.

Even numbers can always be shared equally into two groups, with all even numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.

Odd numbers cannot be shared equally into two groups, with all odd numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

Now, I would like you to watch the video which explains odd and even numbers in greater detail:

Spr2.4.2 – Odd and Even from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

I would now like you to complete the work sheet based on odd and even numbers.  Remember, I like you to be as practical as possible in maths, and using different equipment can help our learning, especially is we are finding it difficult.  There may be many things around your house to support your learning of odd and even numbers.  Make sure you ask permission first, but some ideas are lego bricks, dolls, cars, books, sweets, fruit or coins.  You will be using these to support your learning on odd and even numbers – seeing if a number can be shared equally into 2 groups.  You could draw two circles on a piece of paper, use string or wool to make a circle shape, or use a hoop – be creative and as practical as possible during your maths worksheet activity.

Odd and Even Numbers

Cheeky Challenge: Complete the true or false problem below.  Show me your working out either by using one of the addition methods we have learnt previously in class or by using equipment from around your house.  Make sure you try at least 4 different even numbers, so you can be certain of your answer.

Are you up for an extra challenge?  When you add two odd numbers together, is the answer even or odd?

English Home Learning

To start our English lesson today, I would like you to look at the following picture in detail.  Then I would like you to list as many adjectives (exciting describing words) as possible.  Finally, please use at least two of your adjectives in a sentence.  How many sentences can you write?  As an extra challenge, can you include three exciting adjectives in a sentence?

We are continuing with our English based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  To start with, please write a full sentence describing the emotions and feelings you felt whilst listening to the story, explaining why you think you felt this way.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to plan our own letter based on our story Lost and Found.  Let’s have a quick recap of our letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).

Each feature of a letter needs to include certain aspects.  Let’s look at these in more detail:

Now, I would like you to have a think about your own letter, imagining you are in our Lost and Found story.  Answer the following question making sure your write in full sentences:

Finally, you are going to plan your letter.  I have included a planning template below, but you can answer these questions using full sentences on paper.  By creating a plan, your letter writing later in the week will be supported, and the plan will help make sure you include all the features.

If you are finding this difficult, look back at our letter WAGOLL to help you, or ask other people in your household if they have any letters you could look at and compare.

Cheeky Challenge: Can you list different ways in which we could end a letter before writing our name, instead of just writing ‘from’?

Please carry out your daily reading.

Science Home Learning

Let’s start our Science lesson with a game of odd one out.  Look at the three pictures below, and answer the following questions:

  • What are the similarities?
  • What are the differences?

If you are finding this a little tricky, have a look at the appearance of the three birds, think about what the three birds do, and consider where they might be found.

Today, our focus in Science is animal habitats.  A habitat is where animals and plants live, which is adapted to make sure the animal or plant can survive.  Our lesson today is through a PowerPoint:

Animal Habitats

If you would like to print out the tally charts for this lesson, there is a link below.  However, do not worry if you cannot print, you can create your own tally chart similar to our examples on some paper.

Once you have completed this, you will be moving onto the animal fact file.  Below you will find a WAGOLL, as well as a template.  Remember, if you cannot print this off, create your own template for your fact file, making sure you include all information.

Animal Fact File WAGOLL

Animal Fact File

Cheeky Challenge: Please answer the following questions using full sentences.  Remember, you can use the information you have learnt today based on animal habitats.

Please keep sending in your work, either through Class Dojo or our class email address.  Have a good day and stay safe.

Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths session by singing our number bonds to 10 song.  Once you have joined in, please write down all number bonds to 10, making sure you don’t leave any out (*reminder* there are 11 altogether).  Why not challenge yourself even more by writing down the number bonds to 20.

Today we are going to continue with our Multiplication and Division unit, concentrating on dividing by 2.  This is where we are sharing a number equally into two groups.  For example:

Let’s have a close look at our number sentence and what each part means:

Now, please watch the video below which explains dividing by 2 in greater detail.

Spr2.4.1 – Divide by 2 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

I would now like you to complete the work sheet based on dividing by 2.  Remember, I like you to be as practical as possible, and using different equipment can help our learning.  There may be many things around your house to support your learning of dividing by 2.  Make sure you ask permission first, but some ideas are lego bricks, dolls, cars, books, sweets, fruit or coins.  You will be using these to divide by 2 – sharing equally into 2 groups.  You could draw two circles on a piece of paper, use string or wool to make a circle shape, or use a hoop – be creative and as practical as possible during your maths worksheet activity.

Cheeky Challenge: Complete the true or false problem below.  Show me your working out either by drawing the coins and groups or using real coins.  Can you challenge yourself further by creating your own true or false problem card?

English Home Learning

To start our English lesson today, I would like you to look at the following picture in detail.  Then I would like you to list as many adjectives (exciting describing words) as possible.  Finally, please use at least two of your adjectives in a sentence.  How many sentences can you write?  As an extra challenge, can you include three exciting adjectives in a sentence?

We are continuing with our English based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  To start with, please write a full sentence describing your favourite part of the story, and explain why.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to be focussing on a letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).  Over the week we will be building up our knowledge and understanding of letter writing, so by the end we can write our own letter.  Here is a letter WAGOLL:

Your first task is to read the letter, then think about everything that has been included.  Write a list of the features you can see or those that you already know need to be used in a letter.  As a challenge, can you write an sentence to explain what each feature is?

Now, let’s have a look at the features we need to include.  You can use this to check against your list, or use this as a guide if you feel you would like support whilst finding the features.

Finally, I would like you to imagine yourself in the story Lost and Found, and that you need to write a letter.  Please think about your audience – this is who you are writing the letter to.  Also think about the purpose – the reason you are writing this letter.  Please write full sentences to describe both sections.

Cheeky Challenge – Have you ever sent a letter?  If so, who was it to and why did you send it?  Have you ever received a letter?  If so, who was it from and why was it sent to you?  Finally, if you have never sent or received a letter, who would you like to receive a letter from and why?

Please carry out your daily reading.

Music Home Learning

Please continue learning our whole school song – Any Dream Will Do from Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.  Whilst learning this, listen to the pitch, the different ways you can express your voice and the different ways you can show emotion with your face.

PE Home Learning

I have attached our favourite Zumba videos below.  I know you all love performing alongside these, and they are a great way to sing and dance at the same time.  Remember to make sure you follow each action and that you have enough space around you.  Have fun!

Have a good day and remember to keep sending in your work.

Monday, 22nd February Home Learning

Good morning and welcome back after half term.  We hope you have had a restful, safe half term and have had the opportunity to relax.

For the next two weeks our focus in English will be around a book by Oliver Jeffers called Lost and Found.  Our bible story for the next two weeks will be Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, which will be our afternoon lesson focus. As a whole school, we also have a song to learn (see our class news page).  Our aim is for everyone to learn this song and for you to send in a recording of your singing.  We will then join everyone’s clips together to produce a whole school song.

We will be continuing with our class daily zoom meetings.  Please make sure you do join these, they are an important part of our day and an opportunity to discuss our daily home learning activities.  You will find our daily zoom links on Class Dojo.

Phonics Home Learning

Please join in with the live session of our Read Write Inc Phonics, set 3 with Rosie.  This session goes live on YouTube from 9.30am and can be accessed for 24 hours.

Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths lesson by listening to and joining in with our counting to 100 song.  Once you have done this, please write down all numbers from 0 – 100, making sure they are in the correct order and are formed the right way.  As an extra challenge, can you write the numbers from 100 – 0?

Today we will be focussing on our weekly Nrich problem solving.  It is important for us to carry out problem solving activities as they support our previous learning and allow our brains to think of different ways to reach the answer and solve the problem.  Often, there can be more than one answer or a number of ways to reach the answer.  Problem solving is a fun way to use our maths skills.

Our Nrich problem solving task today is related to colouring triangles.  The link to access the site is below, or you could use the PowerPoint slides posted below:

Website: Colouring Triangles (maths.org)

PowerPoint: Monday Maths

*Reminder* Symmetry is where a shape or object is split into half equally, with both equal sides being coloured or decorated exactly the same.  If you were to put a mirror down the line of symmetry, this would also show the symmetrical image – being exactly the same.

Cheeky Challenge: Explain how you found this problem solving activity.  Which did you find the easiest, which did you find the most difficult, why?  Remember to answer your cheeky challenge in a full sentence.

As previously mentioned, over the next two weeks we will be concentrating on a book called Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  Let’s start by looking at the front cover.

Answer the following questions:

  • What do you think this story will be about?
  • Why do you think this?
  • What characters do you think might be in this story?
  • Does this look like a good book to you?  Why/why not?

Today, we are going to be using our reading comprehension skills to answer questions based on our book.

Now, let’s listen to the story of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

Lost and Found Story

Let’s look at the first slide:

Now, have a look at the following slide which shows you how to structure a sentence and the different steps I have taken to improve it.

*Reminder* An adjective is a describing word, such a big, beautiful or colourful.

* Reminder* A verb is a doing word, and to make it powerful, we think about making it sound exciting.  For example, instead of said we could say whispered, cried, whined.  Instead of walked we could say stomped, marched or tiptoed.

It is your turn now to write a sentence including the information stated at the end of each line.  Be imaginative and think about the different language we have learn and used in class previously.

Remember to make sure you have used everything stated at the end of each line.  Here is a checklist once you have completed your sentences:

Cheeky Challenge: Write a sentence about your day so far, including one exciting adjective and one powerful verb.

RE Home Learning

Our focus for the next two weeks turns to a different bible story, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Today, you are going to learn about the story of Joseph through a range of story slides and videos.  Then, you are going to create a story board to show that you understand the story and the order of the main events.  Finally, you are going to choose one of the cheeky challenges, why not really challenge yourself on this.  All information is on the PowerPoint below.

Joseph story board Monday

Once you have completed your story board and cheeky challenge, please start learning our whole school song – Any Dream Will Do.  This can be found on our class news page.

Have a good day and take care.  If you have any questions, please do message me, and remember to send me photographs of your work either though Class Dojo or our class email address.
