Our Week in Lawley
It has been lovely to get to know the children in Lawley. The children have done a marvellous job with their diaries from the English book “Look Up”. We’ve had a wonderful start to the year! This week we have achieved personal bests in PE, completed a Geography quiz and project, and edited our independent write in English 😊
Our Week in Lawley
We have had a wonderful first few weeks in Lawley. The children have settled well into their new class and are working very hard. In English we have been finding out about astronauts and have designed a space menu. We are currently collecting cardboard tubes so that we can make our own space rockets! In Maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. In PSHE we have been learning about being a good friend and dealing with conflicts. In Art we have been completing an artist study on Paul Klee and have been exploring the use of water colours. In PE we have been pirates! This involved role play –scrubbing the decks, climbing the rigging, tidying the berths, visiting a treasure island and walking the plank!
Well done to all the children have been reading at home. Please do remember reading at home supports your child so much through all of their learning and we would like them to read five times a week. Children have been given one or two phonics books which are changed every Friday and a reading for pleasure book which they can change when they wish. Happy reading.

The Fiver Challenge has been a huge success
Thank you to everyone for their support with this year’s Fiver Challenge.2023
The children have been extremely busy baking cookies, brownies, cakes, muffins and flapjacks as part of their technology project but also working out the ingredients using ratio and proportion in order to make enough for the whole school. They have made jewellery, painted pictures, made milkshakes and sold ice creams and ice pops.
Miss Richards and I have been so proud of them all and they finally made enough money for a brilliant afternoon at Laser Quest and had ice creams of their choice whilst there.
Haughmond go shopping for the Fiver Challenge which starts on Monday 26th June,
Today, Haughmond went shopping in preparation for the Fiver Challenge.

Recycle with Michael and The Salvation Army
As part of the ‘Great Big Green Week’ we launched on Monday, we have joined up with The Salvation Army. This is the 2nd time we have taken part in the Recycle with Michael project to help recycle unwanted clothes and shoes while making a little money for the school.

Turn your unloved clothes and shoes into cash for our school!
We wanted to let you know about an exciting new project we’re discussing with the children this week. Today, we’re announcing our involvement in a new campaign and competition which aims to raise much-needed funds for the school whilst helping others in our community. And we need your help.
Please see attached letter with all the details:
Letter-to-Parents Recycle with Michael
We have about 50 bags available, ready to be filled with your unwanted clothes and shoes. If you would like a bag please as your class teacher and one will be provided – it is on a first-come basis as we only have 50.
It couldn’t be easier to get involved. Simply:
-
Fill the bags with your unwanted clothes and shoes (no bric-a-brac please). If you need more bags please ask at Reception.
-
Return the bags containing your unwanted items on 23rd June and leave them at the hall door which will be open at 8:30 am.
-
The Salvation Army will collect the bags and the money raised from the items will be shared with the school. The more bags we fill – the more cash we raise! If you’re having a clear out, remember Recycle with Michael, and donate to a great cause.
Did you know facts about recycling:
-
30% of our unwanted clothing currently goes to landfill.
-
50,000 tonnes, that’s around £140 million worth of used but still wearable clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year
-
Clothes can take up to 40 years to decompose
-
Shoes can take up to 1,000 years to break down.
-
Textiles can be repurposed into a number of things including sports fields, pillow stuffing, and paper money.
thank you for your continued support.
