‘Let’s Connect’ is about making connections with others in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways. This can be online, in a team or choir or shared dance, in the community, through acts of kindness, etc. Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections. Human beings thrive in communities, and this connection is vital for our well-being. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends, and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of well-being. And when our need for rewarding social connections is not met, we can sometimes feel isolated and lonely – which can have a negative impact on our mental health. In the week commencing 6th February, we will be exploring these ideas with the children and the whole school community.
As well as supporting Mental Health Week, we have created our very own virtual classroom full of resources, support for parents and children, helpful hints and games.
How to use the interactive classroom:
- Click on any images in the bookcase to access (left) books (right) games and activities
- Click on the ‘proud to support’ which will take you straight to the Children’s mental health support page.
- Click on ‘need help‘ for support pages such as charities and support with school
- Click on ‘activities and strategies‘ for games and activities for children
- Click on the ‘grown-ups poster‘ for support for adults and our very own concerns and questions box where we will get back to you.
Many people struggle with their mental health at times and there is no shame in admitting these struggles. The sooner support is available, the better. At Holy Trinity we support students to have good mental health through our curriculum and support services. Supporting children and parents is key and through the virtual classroom, we feel support is available. We have a Mental Health and Wellbeing team at Holy Trinity who are available for both adults and children.
We have had a couple of fantastic weeks in Lawley Class! In English, we have been preparing to write our journey stories. We have been roleplaying, brainstorming and practising our sentences.
In Maths, Y1s have been learning about numbers from 13-20. They have been showing different representations and answering tricky questions. Y2s have been doing addition and subtraction questions with 2-digit numbers! This has been really tricky but they have worked so hard!
In Science, Y1s have been learning all about the seasons. This has included learning how day and night happens across the world. Y2s have been doing an experiment with plants to see what conditions they need to grow.
We have loved our current Art module: we’ve been learning all about mono-printing! So far we’ve done roller printing and carbon paper printing to great success!
During our PHSE lessons, we’ve been learning about the human life cycle and about big and little feelings. We had two visits last week from the dogs trust and from St John’s ambulance. These were really interesting.
At Holy Trinity CE Primary Academy and Nursery, we encourage children to become confident and resilient learners, allowing all children to achieve their full potential.
We know that in order to fulfill the full potential of our pupils, we need to be modelling the mindset of a learner to not be afraid of making mistakes or giving up when they find things hard, but who thrive upon them and understand that this is all part of the learning process. We want all our pupils to relish challenges, embrace their mistakes, value the importance of effort, respond carefully to feedback and take inspiration from others.
At Holy Trinity, we consistently endeavor to challenge and develop the attitudes of all pupils toward learning by considering what makes a successful learner. We have dedicated sessions in class on how we can positively approach challenges inside and outside the classroom and it’s lovely to see the school buzzing with talk of perseverance, challenge, risks, and celebrating mistakes.
Central to this attitude and approach to learning, are the theories and proven evidence of a Growth Mindset by psychologist Carol Dweck.
The theory behind Growth Mindset is based on two types of mindsets, that children and adults may possess, a ‘fixed’ mindset and a ‘growth’ mindset. Below is an overview of the traits of each:
Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset
We are very excited about the prospect of nurturing a growth mindset culture at Holy Trinity.

If you didn’t get to hear the story – press the link above.
We are looking forward to hearing all about your very own astronaut.
Design a picture or poster telling us at Holy Trinity – what your astronaut would do in space.
Entries need to be in by 4th Nov
Have fun!!!!
Last week, we tested our sense of smell. We used our noses to test which of the cups had the most perfume in and which had the least! It was really tricky.
In Maths, we have been using the language of “greater than”, “less than” and “equal to”. We then put numbers in order from greatest to smallest and vice versa!
Our favourite day of the week was definitely Welly Wednesday. We watched Mrs Dallow light a real fire and then we made popcorn and toasted our own marshmallows. We learnt how to be safe around the fire and had a go at building our own (although we didn’t light them!)
Lawley Newsletter and Overview
Lawley Letter A1 Lawley Overview A1
Lawley have been having the best time every Wednesday afternoon. We have been getting our wellies on and adventuring down to the forest.
We spent the first afternoon exploring and learning the rules of the forest to make sure that we were safe. Then, we created faces with natural hair that we have scavenged ourselves.
The following week, we did two very exciting activities from the Stick Man by Julia Donaldson! We made natural paint with Mrs Dallow. We used all sorts of materials like blackberries, sloe berries and mud! We also created our very own stick people!
This week was our favourite week yet. We read the Gruffalo and then built houses for the woodland creatures. After we had built the houses from wood and sticks and dug holes, we then started up our own restaurant chain!
We have been in the forest, no matter what the weather and the whole class has been amazing. We cannot wait for next week!
Lawley class have been very busy since the start of term! We have been working on all sorts across the curriculum as well as our Welly Wednesdays.
In Science, we have been learning about our body parts!
In PE, we have been practising our balances. In Art, we have been collect natural objects and making patterns with them.
In Maths, Year 2 have been partitioning numbers up to one hundred and Year 1 have bene deepening their knowledge of place value to ten. In RE, we have been learning all about the parable of the lost son.
