Dementia Friendly School

We are proud to be working in partnership with the Diocese of Lichfield and Holy Trinity Church, Oswestry, in becoming a dementia-friendly school.

Our aim is to support all in our school community (pupils, staff and families):

  • to be aware of dementia and to understand how to stay in step as patterns change through advancing dementia.
  • affected by dementia to be welcomed, understood, respected and supported.

Our 2023-2024 School Action Plan:

1. To hold a whole school worship for pupils, staff and parents around demetia.

2. To send information leaflets out to all families

3. Develop links with New Fairholme Nursing Home

2nd March is traditionally known as St Chad’s Day

As a school, we will be joining the academy for a live stream of the Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication where we will all come together to celebrate the work and dedication of St Chad. We will join in the lighting of a candle at the academy when the candles will then be lit in  the church.

With a particular thanks to Rev Simon, Canon Gregory and Alex Wolvers as well as Sian Bainbridge (Music Lead at Brewood) and the Brewood Academy for hosting and providing us with a Choir.

WHO IS ST CHAD?

If you would like more information on how we have looked at St Chad as a school previously – please see the powerpoint and images below:St Chad’s Worship for St Chad Day

As part of our RE curriculum we researched a number of Saints:

Easter Service at Holy Trinity Church

All welcome at our Easter Service.

On Thursday 21st March we will be holding our Easter Service at Holy Trinity Church, Roft Street. This will start at 9:30am and finish at approximately 11:00 am. We invite you to join us and watch the children re-telling the Easter Story.  Each class will be singing a song linked Holy Week. Year 3|4 children will be acting during the service with a reading for each day and members of the church will be reading a passage from the Bible and supporting in our prayer.
The choir will be singing ‘ From Now On’ a song most recently performed at Oswestry Music Festival.  Tom Barnes our music specialist and choir teacher will also be performing a solo.

Every year we visit Holt Trinity Church for our Harvest, Christmas and Easter services. Please see below for past services.

If you would like to walk to church with your child’s class please contact your class teacher or the office- thank you for your continued support.

Worship Ambassadors

Please meet our Worship Ambassadors. The children help with the daily acts of worship, whether it is the gather, acting out bible stories or send ( prayer). Worship leaders meet weekly to discuss how they can offer hope to others.

Worship is at the heart of the school day, where we have an act of worship every day, this can as a whole school, key stage, class or group. Worship can be lead by the children, adults or members of Holy Trinity Church.

Please see below link for one of our daily worships, which was finished by a prayer from one of our worship leaders

At the end of each half term, each class will choose a child who has displayed our school motto of hope, we call them our Beacons of Hope. This can be by showing hope for themselves, others or the world.

______________________________________________________________________

Last week the worship leaders took part in   CPD with Picture News where they learnt what makes a good worship and how to plan for a worship of their own. This involved a zoom session where the children were able to answer questions, see children in worship and create a worship tailored to them.

NEXT STEPS: to plan and lead their own worship.

______________________________________________________________________

The children were able to monitor and feedback to teachers about in-class worship on a Tuesday. they visited every class across the school and watched the gather, windows, mirrors, doors and send.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Today we were fortunate enough to visit a number of places of worship as part of our RE curriculum. We visited a mosque, synagogue, church and cathedral.  The worship leaders were able to light a candle and say a prayer on behalf of everyone at Holt Trinity.

Our week in Haughmond

We have had a busy few weeks since the start of our new Spring term 1

Haughmond have started our new book the Selfish Giant and have already written some fantastic letters and poems.

The children seem to be really enjoying this new book.

In RE this week we have been learning about the pillars of Islam and we have used the pillars to connect with our school value of Hope and how the pillars can help us connect with hope for our friends, our school, ourselves, our family and others around the world.

In PE we have started our gymnastic lessons and will now be having this lesson on a Friday instead of a Thursday.

In Science this  week we were able to study a real heart and learn more about the circulatory system. We were able to learn about how our blood cells collect oxygen from the lungs and travels all around our body.

Finally, we had a visit from PC Katie Le Clere – who is the Youth Engagement Officer – West  Erica Police. She gave us lots of information on how we can keep ourselves safe with particular emphasis on drugs and knife crime.

OFSTED REPORT – November 2023

Dear Parents / Carers
As you will remember, we were inspected by Ofsted at the end of November. I have great delight in enclosing the final inspection report for you to read. I am absolutely thrilled that the school has been judged ‘GOOD’ in all areas, and this is a testament to the hard-working and dedicated team of staff we have at school. We will continue to work hard to ensure your children have the best opportunities for learning.
If you have any questions about the report, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Oswestry Advertiser: Inspectors praised the academy for its core value of ‘hope’ being at the heart of the curriculum, stating that; ‘pupils love coming to Holy Trinity.’ “These responsibilities include acting as reading buddies and worship leads. Pupils learn how to make the right choices, so that they can keep themselves safe outside of school.

“The curriculum ensures pupils develop a strong sense of what hope might mean.“For example, pupils say, ‘They hope to do well in school and hope for everyone to be safe.’
