Cheeky Challenge: Complete the true or false question below using the skills you have learnt today.

Remember, you can also access Numbots and TT Rockstars to support your maths learning.

English Home Learning

We are going to start our English lesson by looking at the picture of the dog.  I would like you to list as many as adjectives as possible to describe the dog.  Once you have done your list, please use your adjectives in sentences.

We are going to continue looking at What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers.  If you would like to listen to the story again, the link is below:

Today we are going to be exploring building an identity.  An identity is who we are and what makes us us.  Let’s have a look at the slide below:

Concentrating on the above slide, I would like you to discuss the following questions:

  • How does the shed compare to the house they built earlier in the book?
  • What do you think it will be like inside the shed?  Why do you think this?
  • What familiar objects can you see outside the shed?

Once you have talked about the questions, please write down your answers in full sentences, using capital letters, full stops, phonics and neat handwriting.

Now, I would like you to create your own shed and draw the items you would keep inside.  These will be the things that mean the most to you.  Once you have drawn this, please write an explanation on why these items mean so much to you.

Cheeky Challenge:  What one item from school would you want to keep in your shed and why?

Please complete your daily reading, remembering you can all access Bug Club.  Please also practice your daily spellings.

Design Technology / Science Home Learning

Continuing our work on Noah’s Ark, today you are going to see if your boat sinks or floats.  We completed this activity with Mr Hughes last week using different materials.  You could watch this video again:

https://www.holytrinitycepa.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/science-vid.mp4?_=1

Gather your equipment, but remember to make sure you have permission before using anything.  You need a bowl or bucket of water and your boat.

Now, you are going to see if your boat floats.  Observe and record:

  • Is your boat floating, why?
  • Is your boat sinking, why?
  • Does your boat move around easily?

Take some photos to share with me.

Now, we are going to evaluate our work from the last three days.  Evaluating is an important part of design technology because it helps us look at what worked well and what can be improved.  So please write sentences to explain:

  • What worked well?
  • What did not work well?
  • What did you find easy?
  • What did you find difficult?
  • What would you change next time?
  • How could you make your boat even better?

Remember to share your work, if you have any questions, do get in touch.  Have a good day and stay safe.

Today we are going to be exploring fantasy and real-world innovations.  Let’s have a look at the slides below:

Concentrating on the last slide, I would like you to discuss the following questions:

  • Why do you think the pair have chosen to build these things?
  • What do we find out about these characters from these choices?

Once you have talked about the questions, please write down your answers in full sentences, using capital letters, full stops, phonics and neat handwriting.

Now, I would like you to look at the picture and consider which parts are real and which are fantasy.  Fantasy means made up, ideas thought up through imagination.  You could layout your list like this:

Next, I would like you to design something that might be useful for someone who is feeling lonely, using items that you can see (real) and items using your imagination (fantasy).  Take a look at this website to get some ideas, as well as our book.

Challenge #174 Feel better soon : Little Inventors

Be creative and thoughtful.  Once you have designed this, please write a sentence describing your creation in detail.

Cheeky Challenge:  If you could ask someone to design something for you, what would it be and why?

Please complete your daily reading, remembering you can all access Bug Club.  Please also practice your daily spellings.

Design Technology Home Learning

Continuing our work on Noah’s Ark, today you are going to create the boat you designed yesterday.  Please look back at your design from yesterday, looking at what you need and how you will make your book.

Gather your equipment, but remember to make sure you have permission before using anything.  Now, make your boat, remember to take your time and take pride in your work.  I’m looking forward to seeing your creations!

When you have finished, I would like you to write a sentence telling me:

  • what went well.
  • what you found difficult.
  • Is there anything you would change next time?

Now, put you boat somewhere safe ready for our floating and sinking lesson tomorrow.

Remember to share your work, if you have any questions, do get in touch.  Have a good day and stay safe.

We are going to start off our Maths lesson by joining in with our number bonds to 10 song.  Once you have done this, please write down all number bonds to 10.  Can you write any of the number bonds to 20?

Today, we are going to continue with our unit on Addition and Subtraction, with our focus today being on adding by making ten.

Last week you completed an activity based on this, so today we are going to show our understanding.  Remember, you can use your number bonds to ten to help you with this.  To start with, let’s watch the video:

Spr1.3.2 – Add by making 10 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

You can use many things to help you add by making ten.  You can use your number bonds, draw tens frames, use a number line, or a part, part whole model.

Now, please complete the worksheet.

We are going to start our English lesson by looking at the picture of the crocodile.  I would like you to list as many as adjectives as possible to describe the crocodile.  Once you have done your list, please use your adjectives in sentences.

We are going to continue looking at What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers.  If you would like to listen to the story again, the link is below:

Today we are going to be exploring feelings.  Let’s have a look at the slides below:

Concentrating on the last slide, I would like you to discuss the following questions:

  • How do you think the girl is feeling now?
  • Why do you think she might be feeling that way?
  • Is there a time you have felt like this?

Once you have talked about the questions, please write down your answers in full sentences, using capital letters, full stops, phonics and neat handwriting.

Now, I would like you to explore this page based on our feelings.  There are some video clips to watch and discuss with someone in your household.

How to talk about feelings and emotions with children – CBeebies – BBC

Next, I would like you to create a feelings tree.  This can be done as a drawing, or using cardboard and equipment from round your house (ask permission first). On the leaves I would like you to write down different feelings, then on the back of each feeling leaf, please write a time you have felt like this.

For example: Happy.  I felt happy when we had a zoom meeting today because I got to see lots of the children and their smiling faces.

Cheeky Challenge:  Add an extra leaf on your feelings tree to describe how you are feeling today.  On the back explain why you are feeling like this.

Please complete your daily reading, remembering you can all access Bug Club.  Please also practice your daily spellings.

Design Technology Home Learning

Continuing our work on Noah’s Ark, over the next three days we are going to be focusing on designing then making a boat, followed by seeing if it floats or sinks.  Today, we are going to design our boat.   Noah built his Ark to save the people and animals from the floods.  I would like you to have a good think about the type of boat you would like to design, consider:

  • The shape
  • The size
  • The material used
  • Who your boat is for
  • Why your boat is needed

Have a look at some of my ideas:

Now you have had a good think about the type of boat you would like to create, you need to design it using a plan.  Please draw your boat carefully, writing labels around it to show what each part is.  Next, I would like you to write a sentence about:

  • Why you have chosen this design.
  • Why you have chosen this material.
  • What your boat is going to be used for.
  • If you think you boat will float or sink, and why.

Remember to share your work, if you have any questions, do get in touch.  Have a good day and stay safe.

Home Learning Monday 18th January

Good morning, I hope that you are all well and looking forward to getting started on your Home Learning this week. You will receive your invitation to the daily class Zoom sessions through ClassDojo, I really hope that you can join these meetings as it is an opportunity to talk about your online learning, you can ask any questions and of course we get to see your lovely faces!

Please get in touch if you are having trouble accessing these sessions.

Monday Maths Challenge

Today our Maths is linked to our Bible story Noah and the Ark.

Your problem:

A group of mice, robins, hedgehogs and owls have made a seesaw in the woods. How can you make the seesaw balance? Click on the link below to open the interactive seesaw.

https://nrich.maths.org/14796

Try exploring to find lots of different ways.

What else can you discover?

Don’t forget to share your work on ClassDojo.

Remember to log onto TTRock Stars or Numbots.

English

First, I would like you to take part on our daily online phonics session with Rosie:

Remember to log onto Bug Club to access your reading books and reading activities. I can track your progress and will aware Dojo points for great reading.

Your spellings are under the Spelling tab and a quiz has been set as a ‘2do’ on Purple Mash.

Now look at this image:

How many adjectives (describing words) can you think of to describe the penguin? Can you put these into a sentence?

Now look at this illustration from our current book ‘What We’ll Build’ by Oliver Jeffers (you may like to listen to the story again, the link is further down the page)

Who do you think is talking here?

What does it mean to build a future?

Who do you think is helping to build a future?

Whose future are they helping to build?

What do you think the illustrations represent?

What do you think the blue swoosh represents?

What about the pink and the purple?

Today, you are going to draw your own illustration like this, to include the things that are important to you.

Finally, I would like you to create a story board for Noah and the Ark. You will need to think carefully about what happened in this story and sequence the events. It is a bit like a comic strip! You may want to listen to the story again, here is Miss Younger reading the story:

Here is a template you could use for your storyboard, or you may like to create your own:

Science: Floating and Sinking

Hello everyone!

Today we will be looking at what floats and what sinks.

Look at the Powerpoint below and read the information.

Float or sink

Lets see if the shape of an object changes whether it floats or sinks. Watch the video below to find out.

Now can you carry out your own investigation into what objects float or sink. I want you to think carefully about why these objects might float or sink as well.

Art 08/01/2021- Dinosaur Drawing

I thought for Friday afternoon we could have a go at drawing our own dinosaurs!

Did Dinosaurs Really Have Feathers? | Britannica

We’ve learnt a lot about dinosaurs, from when they lived to what they ate. I’d like you today to design and create your own dinosaur and carefully draw and colour it.
