Maths Home Learning

Today, and every Friday, we are going to give you the opportunity to complete Maths activities on TT Rockstars, Numbots and Mathletics.  With these websites, your progress is recorded so I will be able to see who has logged on and what you have completed.  Your login details are in the front of your reading records, however if you cannot find these, please send me a message.

English Home Learning

Today is our spelling test day.  You can either ask someone in your household to complete your spelling test, or you can log onto Purple Mash where there is a spelling test quiz set as a To Do.  This will then let me know how well you have practised your spellings.  Your new spellings will be uploaded onto our class spellings tab.

Also on a Friday, we complete a reading comprehension.  Please make sure you read the text first, this will then help you answer the questions correctly.  This is the skill we are working on today.  Here is our comprehension for today:

Finally, I would like you to carry out your daily reading.  If you do not have any spare reading books at home, please remember you all have access to Bug Club.  Again, if you cannot find your login details, please message me.  I am checking this regularly so I can allocate more books to the children who need them.

ICT Home Learning

In ICT we are going to continue developing our coding skills.  Everyone became very confident in logging onto Purple Mash and started to create their own codes for backgrounds.

English Home Learning

We are going to start our English session by thinking of as many adjectives to describe my animal below.  Remember, adjectives are describing words.

Today, we are going to continue with our book, What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers.  Please start by listening to Miss Wright read this story.

Our focus today is to think and consider what makes a home and how homes can be different.  First, look at the slides below.

Please answer the questions, first of all by sharing your ideas with someone in your household, like we do with partner talk.  Then write down your answers using full sentences with capital letters, full stops and using your phonics and neat handwriting.

Now, listen to this song, Our House by Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Please now read the slide below, discuss your thoughts, then write your answers down in full sentences.

Science Home Learning

To start our science lesson today, we are going to play Odd One Out.  Look at the photographs of the three homes below:

Write down the similarities and the differences between all three homes.  Think about the materials used to make the homes, how the homes have been made and who uses the homes.  Is there an odd one out?  If so, why or why not?

Today we are going to be looking at floating and sinking.  Think about our Bible Story this week, Noah’s Ark.  Noah built his Ark for many animals, it was big and heavy, but it still floated in the floods.

How and why do you think Noah’s Ark floated in the flood water?

Today, you are going to carry out your own experiment and let me know your results.  First, ask a grown up for a bowl or box of water.  Keep it on a flat surface like a table.

Next, I would like you to make a boat out of materials you have at home.  For example, you could use:

• foil
• paper
• card
• cling film
• fabric

Just make a rough boat shape, don’t worry about it being exactly like a boat.  Look at my example below:

Now, I would like you to make a prediction.  Remember, a prediction is having a good, sensible guess at which material you think will float the best.  Look at all the materials, feel them and use your senses to make your prediction.  I would like your sentence to be:

I predict ………………………… will be the best material to float because …………..

Now, it is experiment time!  You are now going to place one of the boats in the water and see which floats and which sinks.  Some of the materials may stay afloat for a minute or two, then sink. Observe each boat for five minutes before writing up your results.  Why do you think these results have happened?

I would like you to write up your results like we do in class.  Have a look at my example below:

Topic Home Learning

In our topic lesson today, you are going to choose an animal that may have been on Noah’s ark and create a fact file.  You may have a fact book at home, already know many facts, or you could search on kiddle.com to carry out your research. 

The animal you choose is up to you, but you must be able to complete a full fact file.

The information I would like you to include in your fact file is:

• The name of the animal and a picture.
• The country the animal is from.
• What the animal eats.
• Does the baby have another name?
• A description of what the animal looks like.
• An interesting and fun fact.

You can design your fact file in any way you wish to, make it bright and colourful, as well as clear to read.  You may wish to write your fact file or type it up on the computer.  I cannot wait to see them!

In our art lesson today, you are going to choose an animal that may have been on Noah’s ark and draw the animal in detail.  This is not to be a rushed activity, I want you to take your time and concentrate, making sure you do your best.
