Wednesday Maths

Maths Games!

Turn your number cards face down. Ask your child to turn a card over. What number is one more than this? What number is one less? Repeat with other number cards. This could be extended by asking your child to hop/jump/clap to the new number.

Can your child order the number cards from 0-20 ( or 30 if you have them) . Challenge them by setting a timer on your phone. Can they beat the timer?

Number Writing Activity – your child is going to practice writing their numbers. But, they need to work out what number you want them to write first. For example if you want them to write 5, you could give them the clue it is the number that is “One more that 4”, or it is “The number you get when you add 2 and 3” etc. If you have something tactile they could write in to make it more engaging for your child that would be great (cornflour mixed with water, salt sprinkled on a tray, sand, shaving foam, hair gel!). Perhaps they could chalk the numbers onto the ground outside or paint them with water? Paper and pens will also work!
