Friday 22nd January 2021. Literacy home learning for Clee Class and Earls Hill Reception (Cygnets)

Good morning Reception children and families!

Here is ‘What We’ll Build’ by Oliver Jeffers read by Miss Wright for you to listen to again if you wish:

Today we are going to be looking at this page of the book:

Read the words with your grown up. What do you think the boat is made from? What materials would you use to build a boat so that it ‘can’t be broken or cracked open’?

Today I would like you to look around your house for different objects that you or your family use. How are they made? What are they made from? How do they work? How are they useful to you?

Now I would like you to be an inventor. Do you know what an inventor does? Talk to your grown up about it. I would like you to design and build your own inventions using construction equipment or through junk modelling.

The Little Inventors website has a series of mini challenges and design sheets that you could use for ideas: https://www.littleinventors.org/mini-challenges
When you have designed your invention I would like you to use your design sheet to talk about your invention while your grown up records you. Can you explain what it is, how you built and what it does? I would love it if you could send your recordings to me to watch.

I would also like you to practise forming your letters correctly. You can do this using a pencil and paper or you could find another exciting way. Perhaps you could use
