Friday 8th January – Maths

Start by singing the big numbers song!

Cygnets (Reception) and Clee Reception
Parents, please could you get 10 pieces of paper, they don’t have to be full sheets. On each piece of paper, write a number 1 to 10. Ask your child to tell you what number has been written on each piece of paper. Spread your numbers over the floor in a random order, with as much room as possible between them. Challenge your children to move like stickman and stand on a certain number. Say “Stickman stand on number 3” “Stickman stand on number 7” and so on. Swap roles with your child so they are telling you what number to stand on. Try occasionally going to the wrong number and see if they notice!
When it comes to tidying up the activity ask your child to collect the numbers in the correct order starting at one. Prompt them by asking “What’s next?”
You could then extend this activity if you want to by holding up one of the numbers and asking what number it is. Your child could jump, clap or hop that many times. Perhaps they could write the number themselves.

Swans (Year 1) – You are welcome to complete the above activity but I think you are clever enough to use bigger numbers, up to 20. Can you use numbers to 30?!

Today as your set task, I’d like you to work through as much of the Maths book you have at home as you are comfortable doing.

Please also log onto Numbots and work through it to earn some more coins!
