Minibeast Adventures!

Here are a few of the exciting things Clee class have been doing in our Minibeast topic.

We have been on bug hunts in the outdoor area and have written about what we discovered.

We learnt about the life cycle of the butterfly. We acted out the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. Can you see the tiny caterpillar popping out of the egg on the leaf as the sun shines?

We also munched our way through all the different fruits that the hungry caterpillar eats!

We put layers of soil, sand and grass into a bottle to create a wormery. It was fun to watch the worms wriggle and we sang the song ‘There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden’!

We have also created an ‘Insect Explorers Hut’ role play area and a minbeast information corner. We have made clay snails and eaten snail sandwiches. We also conducted a snail snack experiment. We discovered that snails really like eating cucumber. Using this information, we made snail fact files. Our snail work was linked to the story ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson.

We have learnt about symmetry, using butterflies and doubles using ladybird spots. We enjoyed hearing the story ‘The Very Lazy Ladybird’ by Isobel Finn and Jack Tickle. We thought of our own adjectives to write sentences describing the animals in the story.
