Monday Maths

Today you will need some ice cream sheets and some 1p coins (or circles cut from paper/card).

Please draw some ice creams sheets similar to the ones below for your child. Or print off these sheets. There are three sheets, but you will only need to print off and use the first two. (Please ignore the fact that on the second sheet some coins appear larger to represent 2p. Use each coin as 1p)

ice cream and pennies

Ask your child to count up the pennies and write how much each ice cream costs in the space.

Now use real coins if possible, or the circles of card/paper you have cut out. Point to an ice cream on the sheet and ask your child how much it costs. Ask them to count out that many pennies.

If you made the ice cream playdough a few days ago you could now extend this activity by playing ice cream shops. Ask your child to write ice cream price tags and take it in turns to be the customer, paying for an ice cream using the correct amount of pennies.
