Thursday 21st January 2021. Maths Home Learning for Clee Class and Earls Hill Reception (Cygnets)

To start our maths today we are going to join in some counting songs. The video lasts 14 minutes; you can watch and sing them all or pause and sing some later:

Today we are going to continue to learn about more and fewer.

For any children who may find this a little tricky please scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will find some home learning about smaller numbers. Today the video recaps numbers 1, 2 and 3.

To do this activity you will need:

  • some building blocks

  • number cards from your resources pack
  • a number line

Clipart blank number line

Now can you choose a number from your pack. What number is it? Build a tower using that number of blocks and count them to make sure you have used the correct amount. Now pick another number from your pack. What number is it? Build a tower using this number of blocks. Did you use more or fewer blocks to build your tower? Can you find the two numbers on your number line?

Play this game again. This time your grown up can choose one number and you can choose a number. Both of you build a tower. Who used more blocks? You or your grown up?

Here are some more ideas of how you can practise 1 more and 1 less/fewer:

To extend this activity you can use higher numbers or ask your child to work out 2 more or 2 less/fewer.

This link is for any children who need a little more help and support with learning about early numbers. Today the learning is about recognising, counting and representing the number 1, 2 and 3. This is session 4
