Wednesday 20th January 2021. Maths home learning for Clee Class and Earls Hill Reception (Cygnets)

To start our maths today we are going to join in some counting songs. The video lasts 14 minutes; you can watch and sing them all or pause and sing some later:

Today we are going to continue to learn about more and fewer.

For any children who may find this a little tricky please scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will find some home learning about smaller numbers. Today the video recaps numbers 1, 2 and 3.

To do this activity you will need:

  • a pillowcase or bag

Small Drawstring Bag | Buy Unprinted | Free UK Delivery | Doodle Bag

  • some objects from around your house

Buy Hot Wheels Car - 9 Pack Assortment | Toy cars and trucks | Argos

  • a number line

Clipart blank number line

  • a Lego character or small character

3D lego character - TurboSquid 1206750   Super Mario YOSHI STANDING Vinyl Sticker Decal 14" | eBay

Now, using the pillow case or bag, place some objects into it; making sure you count them as you do so. Once you have a number objects in your pillow case or bag, remember how many you put in. e.g.
• You may have placed 3 toy cars into your pillow case or bag.
• Now add one more
• How many objects are in the pillow case or bag?

Now I would like you to use your Lego character place it on the number 3, as that is
how many objects were in your pillow case. You added one more item so move your Lego character, one space to the right and it should land on number 4.
Therefore, you now have 4 items in your pillow case. Open it to see if you were correct.

I would like you to do this as many times as you wish to using different numbers between 0 and 9.

To extend this activity you can count the objects into the pillow case or bag and then take 1 out. How many are there in the bag now? Use your character and number line to help you. Open the bag and count the objects to check if you were correct.
