Wednesday 3rd March 2021. Maths home learning for Clee Class and Earls Hill Reception (Cygnets)

Today we are going to start our maths learning by joining in some number songs:

And a days of the week song:

For today’s activity you will need:

  • materials to make a boat (yogurt pot, a box, a toy boat or something else which you may think of)
  • A bowl or container filled with water
  • Something to put inside your boat such as lego bricks, pasta, toy cars, fruit.

I would like you to make a boat using the materials you have found.

Place your boat onto the water. Does it float? If it does float it is ready for you to use for the activity. If it sinks you need to change something about it to make it float. Now I would like you to estimate (clever guess) how many objects you can put into the boat until it sinks. Write this number down. Now carefully count the objects into your boat until it sinks. How many objects did you put in? Was your estimate correct?

You can try this using different types of objects; remember to make your estimate first.

In our maths learning on Friday we are going to make penguins which we can eat! You will need to decide how you are going to make your penguins and what you will need for the activity. Here are some suggestions, or you can use your own ideas:
