What is the Sports Premium?
The Government is providing funding of £150 million to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. Starting from September 2013, and lasting for at least two academic years, ring-fenced funding – only to be spent on sport – will go directly to schools who will decide what is best for their children’s sport needs. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. After the 2015 election, the Government have extended their commitment to primary school sport for a further two years. We also want to encourage long term participation in sports, regardless of socioeconomic factors to ensure that our quality provision inspires and motivates health and fitness for all.
The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, in the 2018-19 academic year, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
Holy Trinity C.E, Primary Academy and Nursery provides a wide variety of physical activities for pupils, both during the school day and on an extracurricular basis.
We believe that PE should give all children the opportunity to learn and develop the transferable skills needed to participate in sport and physical activity. Experience in PE, sport and physical activities should enthuse, inspire and allow enjoyment resulting in a noticeable increase in self-confidence for each child. Through successful implementation, children should be allowed to develop independent learning, risk taking, problem solving and team building.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we do not have up to date figures to detail the percentage of children in Year 6 being able to swim 25m.
