Monday 22nd June Home Learning

Good morning Lawley!

I hope you are all well and have had a good, safe weekend.  Here are our home learning activities for today.

Reading and phonics

Please complete your daily reading followed by a book review, this let’s me know what you have enjoyed about the book you have read.

Next, please take part in the Read Write Inc Set 3 Phonics session for today on YouTube.  After this, please have a game of Buried Treasure on the Phonics Play website, revising all phase 2 sounds.

English Home Learning

This week I am setting a writing competition based on The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

I want all of Lawley to get involved and there will be a prize of 10 dojo points for the winner, 7 for second place and 5 for third place.  Everyone who takes part will receive 2 house points.  Each day there will be a different activity for you to complete in order to get prepared for the writing competition over Thursday and Friday.

First of all I want you to listen to the story.  If you have this book at home, you can also read this.

Today I would like you to design your own shop for George the Giant to find.  In this shop there must be several items that George can get to pass on to other animals later in the story.  Have a good think of the type of shop you want to design for George and the items you will give to George. I then want you to:

  1. Draw your shop.
  2. Design a name for your shop.
  3. Write about what you sell in the shop and the five items George will buy.

Remember in our writing we must always include:

  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • phonics
  • finger spaces
  • neat handwriting

Cheeky Challenge:  Why will George choose your shop to go to?

I have set Chapter 2 of Little Red on Purple Mash for you to read, as well as an activity to complete.

Maths Home Learning

Please start our maths session today by watching and joining in with our number bonds to ten song.  When this is finished, please write down all number bonds to ten independently.

Today we are going to be focussing on counting to 100, ensuring we say and write each number correctly.  First, please watch the video on the White Rose website.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

Please use the skills we have learnt in class and the guidance from the video you have watched to complete our activity for today.  Have a go independently, but if you are having difficulties, I have included a hundred square to support your learning.

Cheeky Challenge: Please complete the reasoning problem below by finding Ava’s mistake and explaining how you know this is a mistake.

Topic Home Learning

Today we are going to be looking at seabirds.  There are many different birds that leave close to the sea, some of them you may never have heard of.  Have a look at the pictures below.

I would like you to choose one of the seabirds and create a poster telling me all about them.  I want you to include:

  • The name
  • Physical features (what they look and sound like)
  • The food they eat
  • Their habitat (where they live)
  • How they nest
  • A fascinating fact

As well as including your facts on your poster, include drawings, make it bright and attractive so people are drawn to looking at it.

Art Home Learning

One of my favourite authors is Roald Dahl because I grew up with his books, I still find them funny and interesting and I love the characters – especially the BFG! I also enjoy looking at the illustrations in the books.  The illustrator Roald Dahl used was Quentin Blake.  Today I would like you to watch the video below to help you draw some of Roald Dahl’s characters.

Have a great day Lawley, stay well and safe.
