Wednesday, 24th February Home Learning

Good morning everyone!  Fantastic efforts yesterday with your home learning, remember to keep sending your hard work in.

We will be holding our class daily zoom today.  Please make sure you do join, it is an important part of our day and an opportunity to discuss our daily home learning activities.  You will find our daily zoom links on Class Dojo.

Maths Home Learning

We are going to start off our maths session by singing our counting in 2s song.  Once you have joined in, please write down all numbers up to 50 counting in 2s, making sure all your numbers are formed correctly.  Why not challenge yourself even more by going up to 100 counting in 2s.

Continuing with our Multiplication and Division unit in Maths, our focus today is odd and even numbers.

Even numbers can always be shared equally into two groups, with all even numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.

Odd numbers cannot be shared equally into two groups, with all odd numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

Now, I would like you to watch the video which explains odd and even numbers in greater detail:

Spr2.4.2 – Odd and Even from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

I would now like you to complete the work sheet based on odd and even numbers.  Remember, I like you to be as practical as possible in maths, and using different equipment can help our learning, especially is we are finding it difficult.  There may be many things around your house to support your learning of odd and even numbers.  Make sure you ask permission first, but some ideas are lego bricks, dolls, cars, books, sweets, fruit or coins.  You will be using these to support your learning on odd and even numbers – seeing if a number can be shared equally into 2 groups.  You could draw two circles on a piece of paper, use string or wool to make a circle shape, or use a hoop – be creative and as practical as possible during your maths worksheet activity.

Odd and Even Numbers

Cheeky Challenge: Complete the true or false problem below.  Show me your working out either by using one of the addition methods we have learnt previously in class or by using equipment from around your house.  Make sure you try at least 4 different even numbers, so you can be certain of your answer.

Are you up for an extra challenge?  When you add two odd numbers together, is the answer even or odd?

English Home Learning

To start our English lesson today, I would like you to look at the following picture in detail.  Then I would like you to list as many adjectives (exciting describing words) as possible.  Finally, please use at least two of your adjectives in a sentence.  How many sentences can you write?  As an extra challenge, can you include three exciting adjectives in a sentence?

We are continuing with our English based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  To start with, please write a full sentence describing the emotions and feelings you felt whilst listening to the story, explaining why you think you felt this way.

Now, let’s listen to the story again.

Lost and Found Story

Today, we are going to plan our own letter based on our story Lost and Found.  Let’s have a quick recap of our letter WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like).

Each feature of a letter needs to include certain aspects.  Let’s look at these in more detail:

Now, I would like you to have a think about your own letter, imagining you are in our Lost and Found story.  Answer the following question making sure your write in full sentences:

Finally, you are going to plan your letter.  I have included a planning template below, but you can answer these questions using full sentences on paper.  By creating a plan, your letter writing later in the week will be supported, and the plan will help make sure you include all the features.

If you are finding this difficult, look back at our letter WAGOLL to help you, or ask other people in your household if they have any letters you could look at and compare.

Cheeky Challenge: Can you list different ways in which we could end a letter before writing our name, instead of just writing ‘from’?

Please carry out your daily reading.

Science Home Learning

Let’s start our Science lesson with a game of odd one out.  Look at the three pictures below, and answer the following questions:

  • What are the similarities?
  • What are the differences?

If you are finding this a little tricky, have a look at the appearance of the three birds, think about what the three birds do, and consider where they might be found.

Today, our focus in Science is animal habitats.  A habitat is where animals and plants live, which is adapted to make sure the animal or plant can survive.  Our lesson today is through a PowerPoint:

Animal Habitats

If you would like to print out the tally charts for this lesson, there is a link below.  However, do not worry if you cannot print, you can create your own tally chart similar to our examples on some paper.

Once you have completed this, you will be moving onto the animal fact file.  Below you will find a WAGOLL, as well as a template.  Remember, if you cannot print this off, create your own template for your fact file, making sure you include all information.

Cheeky Challenge: Please answer the following questions using full sentences.  Remember, you can use the information you have learnt today based on animal habitats.

Please keep sending in your work, either through Class Dojo or our class email address.  Have a good day and stay safe.
