Divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

Moving on from yesterdays activity, today you will be trying to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number.

Another word for dividing is sharing.

So when we’re dividing we need to remember a very important rule:

We have to share equally so everyone gets the same amount.

The most simple way is to make equal groups. So if we had 6 and we divided that number by 2, we would write 6 ÷ 2.

Division into Groups: Part 2 - DoubleRoot.in

The 6 dots have been split into 2 equal groups. There  are 3 dots in each group so the answer is 3.

6 ÷ 2= 3

But, when dividing larger numbers the grouping method isn’t always the most efficent.
