Thursday’s Home Learning

Hello Nursery children and families,

To start the day we are going to move our bodies. This is one of our favourites in Nursery:

Mrs Meddins is reading a story today called ‘Elmer and the Rainbow’ When you have listened to the story ask your child about it; What happened in the story? Who was in the story? Which part of the story did they like best? What happened at the end of the story?

Now you and your child can make their own Elmer, all you need is:

  • 1 empty, clean milk carton
  • Glue
  • Coloured paper or tissue paper cut into squares

How to make Elmer:

  • Cut the milk bottle in half to create the body, with the handle forming Elmer’s trunk
  • Take off the lid and cut off the ‘raised’ bit of the bottle
  • Cover the bottle in glue and put on the coloured paper
  • When Elmer is dry draw on his eyes using a felt tip pen

You can create Elmer in lots of different ways:

The next activity is a counting activity:

You will need

  • a large sheet of paper
  • black marker pen
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • coloured paper
  • Glue (optional).

Now you are ready to make the Elmer counting activity. You can make the graph up to whatever number you feel is appropriate for your child; writing the numbers with matching spots will support children with numeral recognition. The glue is optional to allow the activity to be completed and played with over and over again.

Have a great day everyone!
