Last week Mr Dickson and 3 pupils attended the Millicent Kaye Art Competition awards ceremony at the Qube in Oswestry. The pupils in Year 6 at Holy Trinity had studied Wilfred Owen and The Great War as part of their topic this year so they had plenty of ideas for the competition. Their hard work paid off, as not only did we have 3 children who won a prize or a commendation but as a school we received the Millicent Kaye trophy for the most effort. Well Done Mrs Platt and the Year 6 children. The artwork is on display in the Qube until 30th June 2018.
Here’s what the Advertizer had to say:
With the centenary coming up, it was appropriate that commemorating the end of the Great War was the topic chosen for the subject of Oswestry Rotary Club’s annual Millicent Kaye Art Competition for Primary School children.
With over 200 entries from nine schools the competition judge Joan Turner was faced with the huge task of selecting the winning entries from such a large and accomplished field.
President Dave Davies was therefore delighted to present the prize winners and their schools with certificates and cheques for their achievements at the opening of the exhibition of work at Qube.
“What an inspiring collection of artworks, said Dave.“You can see how well the pupils had researched the subject. I hope it helped them find out more about The Great War. How does the judge make her choice?”
One of the school’s teachers said: “It was a topic that our children could really do their research around; we produced paintings, models and clay items – all valuable art media for their studies.”
There were many deserving commendations but the results of the winning entries are:
2-D: 1, Charlie Miller – Moreton Hall; 2, Lauren Doodson – Holy Trinity; 3, Ruby Prust – Trefonen.
3-D: 1, Oliver Hamlett – Our Lady and St Oswald; 2, Charlie Bird – Moreton Hall. The Millicent Kaye Award 2018 was presented to Holy Trinity C Of E Primary Academy whose pupils were judged to have made the greatest effort.
The exhibition of selection of the entries, including the winners, is open to all at The Qube until June 30.
