Stories – what we have been up to so far…….

We have participated in lots of activities linked to our ‘stories’ theme.

In the first week, we explored traditional tales. We discussed traditional story openings and endings. Our role play area has been set up as a shoe shop, to link in with the story ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’

We had a go at mending shoes and boots.

We explored the patterns on the soles of shoes and boots by standing in sand. We then designed our own shoe soles.

In the second week, we explored two texts: ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’  both by the author Julia Donaldson. We learned about adjectives and used them to describe the Gruffalo. We played in a Gruffalo small world tray, followed a recipe to make Gruffalo crumble and used loose parts to design and create a Gruffalo face.

Dr Seuss books were explored during the third week of term. We explored rhyming texts and imagined the chaos that ‘The Cat in the Hat’ might cause in our school! Some of us created wanted posters to help catch the mischievous cat. We used the style, books and quotes of Dr Seuss as inspiration for our colourful new reading area. We created art work to add to the reading area and have enjoyed using it to read books.
