Our maths today is going to continue to be based on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
We are going to start by singing some number songs:
Today we are going to measure ourselves using a beanstalk.
For this activity you will need:
- a beanstalk (you can use the one you made yesterday) or you can draw a beanstalk inside or outside using chalk
- a giant – this can be your grown up or someone else who in your family
- some toys to measure (teddies, characters)
- some paper leaves
- a pencil
- some building blocks, boxes, books or something else to use to measure
- First find or make a beanstalk.
- Now write the word ‘giant’ onto one of the paper leaves.
- Measure the ‘giant’ using boxes, books, building blocks or something else you may have in your house (they may have to lie down!).
- How many ………… tall are they?
- Write that number onto the leaf.
- Now write your name on a paper leaf and the giant can measure you.
- Write this number onto the leaf. Who is taller? You or the giant?
- Repeat this using some of the toys you have.
Can you put the giant and the toys in order putting the smallest first?
Now put the leaves on the beanstalk starting with the shortest and putting the tallest at the top?
Well done everyone! That was really tricky!
